UNLOCKING THE ENTREPRENEUR IN YOU

Igniting Your Passion and Dealing With Fear are important Issues for All Entrepreneurs. With That in Mind, a Successful Entrepreneur Shares His Own Thoughts on the Subject.

By Aaron L. Artis

I started in business the way most people do. I received a chain letter in the mail. I decided to try it out because it seemed possible to make "$50,000 in Three Months" from their diagram. After I lost about $90 (for printing, envelopes, a mailing list and stamps), I was a little discouraged, but still intrigued by this thing called mail order.

A few months down the line, I answered one of those "envelope stuffing" ads. I needed some extra money and making "$1,000 a Week" was very tempting. When I ordered their "start up package" for that "processing fee" and got a booklet telling me how to sell the same booklet, I studied it and decided it wasn't a bad idea for a product at all. I was expecting a real employment opportunity, but what I got was a spark to start learning about mail order. Although it was the wrong way, it was a start.

Since those days, I've learned more and more. Mail order still intrigues me today and I've grown a sort of love for this business. I started PNC Enterprises in 1995 and began selling reprintable reports. I now publish the bimonthly advertiser, Offers Unlimited, provide various products and services, and I'm a member of the Homeworkers Alliance and the Inter Circle. As they say, "I've come a long way, baby!" Quite simply, and this is what I tell members of my downline, if you want it badly enough, you'll have to work for it.

The entrepreneur in you is that part of you that wants to be successful. But first you have to realize that this mail order industry is a business, just like any other. All of these ads promising you riches in 90 days are obviously there just to make a sale. That's how they're making their money. If it really were that easy, everyone would be doing it. More than likely, they aren't making much of a profit off these clearly false ads preying upon people's greed.

In order to unlock the entrepreneur in you, you must determine if it's something that you want to do and pursue it with a passion. If you're in this business and truly want to sell something of quality and value, and have a deep passion for it, your entrepreneurial aspect will come forth. Unfortunately, sometimes it's held back because of fear. Fear of failure, fear of "wasting money," fear of experimenting with something new.

What some don't understand is that mail order is a business. Much like any other business you must invest. To unlock that entrepreneur in you, you must now be afraid to invest, try something new, test a product, or create something new and unique. Be an entrepreneur. Don't be afraid to get your feet wet, but work within your limits. Don't go spending your savings on some idea that you think will work. Test that idea first, within your spending limits. An entrepreneur is not afraid to take chances, but is wise in his decisions.

In being an entrepreneur, create products of value, not some "get rich quick" scheme. Making money in just about any business depends on repeat sales. If you try to gyp someone with a useless plan that will obviously not make anyone any money, no customer will order from you again. Your name will not be much good in mail order anymore.

In being an entrepreneur, always give out 110 percent and never stop learning. Always try to grow and improve your business. You'll end up on the good dealer team and eventually, you'll succeed.
