We Often Look for That "Special Thing" That Will Make us Successful. But Is There Only One Thing We Need to Do? Read on. By Gary Christensen
Is there REALLY "one thing" which you must do or your business will fail? No--there are actually MANY things that you should do, which will help to make your business successful. Let's look at a few:
1. Spending--Spend your money wisely. Get the most from every dollar.2. Purchasing--Order in quantity, whenever possible, to save money.
3. Restraint--Don't buy TOO much! If possible, buy only what you need to get by and save your money for other, more important things.
4. Ads--Get the highest circulation of your ads, to reach the greatest number of people that you can, for the least amount of ad money spent.
5. Contacts--Make as many contacts as you can. Make use of "word of mouth" advertising.
6. Trade--Trade ads with other businesses and publishers. Get Free publicity by sending out News releases.
7. Samples--Give away Free Samples, to entice people to order from you.
8. Listings--Get as many Free Listings as possible. Work out "trade deals" with other sources.
9. Printing--Use low-cost printing methods, but don't be TOO cheap with your printing. Your printed literature (usually) is ALL that most people will ever see of you.
So there's really NOT just ONE THING which is the "line" between success and failure. It's more accurately several things which you must do. Let's take a look at three more very important ones.
1. Advertise--You MUST Advertise. Without it, no one will know you are in business. Advertising informs and attempts to convince people to do business with you. If you aren't advertising, you aren't reaching potential customers. Advertising is that sign in your window. Advertising is your listing in the Yellow Pages. Advertising is that TV or Radio commercial. Advertising is that "Ad" in Newspapers and Magazines. It's also those flyers and business cards you have printed.Advertising is also what your competitors do and that may be why THEIR business is booming and yours isn't.
2. Duplicate--You MUST duplicate your efforts. You must recruit other people to help you reach still other people. Your dealers and agents will reach people that you never could reach. Every new person you recruit as one of your dealers may increase your business by 50 percent. Some dealers can double or even triple your business.
Your own list of satisfied customers is your best possible list of potential recruits. They're the ones who've already bought from you. They know you and you know them. They're already convinced and "sold" on your products. Just put the tools they need in their hands to promote your business and turn them loose.
3. Reinvest--You MUST reinvest in your business. Continue to put your time and energy into your business to make it grow. AND put some of your profits BACK into your business. Some say 25 percent, while others say 30 percent of each dollar should be used to buy more printing, advertising/promotion, etc.
If you're NOT reinvesting some of your profit back into your own business, why not? Don't you believe in it? Reinvest a portion of your profits back into your business to make it grow.
Good luck.
