Web Marketing Doesn't Have to be Complex. Here's How to Improve Results by Using Common Internet Tools.
By Kevin Nunley
Every one of your web pages should have a headline. People who surf the net have a LOT to see in very little time. Recent studies show people often log on for just 10 or 15 minutes, look at a few favorite sites, check email, and log off.
The single biggest reason web sites aren't successful is they don't make their point fast enough. Hurried visitors won't take time to read through long passages of dense copy.
Instead, put your most important point in a headline right at the top of the page. Start your headline with an action word or phrase like: "learn," "discover," "achieve," or "relax." Your headline should not only give the reader some idea of what your page offers, but should also convey how the info can help them. For example:
"Stay on the Profit-Making Cutting Edge with These 10 Newsletters--FREE!"
Our studies have shown general audiences respond best to headlines that contain large amounts of money or a free computer.
And while you're at it, why not begin using your sig file to improve your marketing results? The sig file (sig, short for signature) are those few lines of info that comes at the bottom of an email message. Most email programs let you set your sig file up in advance. It's then automatically added to the end of any email you send.
Because email is by far the most popular feature of the Internet, having an effective sig file is one of the most powerful online marketing tools available. Email messages, like letters you type or write by hand, have a strong personal power. Prospects and customers pay far closer attention to a personal email than they do to all other kinds of online marketing.
Your sig file should include your position, phone number, other vital contact info and your web address (with http:// in front of it so it becomes a live clickable link). It's also a good idea to include a positioning statement that reminds people what you can do for them. Mine is "Helping you with marketing advice, copywriting and promotion packages."
Remember: You get best results when you include a specific offer.
