Are You Running One-Time Ads and Getting No Response? As Many Business People Can Tell You, That's Not Surprising.
By Kevin Nunley
Have you ever run a one-time ad and then wondered why you didn't get much response? That's not unusual.
Advertising and marketing almost always take repeated use to work properly. Once in a while, you'll get a product or service that sells with the first ad, but most take time to sink in with customers.
There's an old newspaperman's joke that dates back more than 100 years. It illustrates how ads work:
1. The first time a man looks at an ad, he doesn't see it.2. The second time, he doesn't notice it.
3. The third time, he is conscious of its existence.
4. The fourth time, he faintly remembers having seen it.
The joke continues on until the sixteenth time has him thinking he'll buy some day and the twentieth time he see the ad, he instructs his wife to go out and buy the product. So don't give up after your first ad doesn't pull. Keep the ads coming and watch what happens.
With that in mind, here are some other way to save big on very effective promotion:
* Desktop publishing makes catalogs and brochures easy to produce. Create your own booklet to include with orders.* Get a toll-free number. Even though long distance calls aren't nearly as expensive as they used to be, many customers will call you faster if you list an 800 number. Mine is 888-429-6203. Using the phone to sell person-to-person is often the fastest way to get a buy.
* Advertise in specialty and neighborhood newspapers. I get incredible response advertising in an entertainment paper placed in restaurants. A classified ad is just $10 per week.
* Buy TV ads on cable TV. Cable rates are cheaper and you can limit your commercials to specific parts of your city.
* Get a big cell phone package and give your cell number out to everyone. When customers can reach you just about any time, you get the sale.
* Give away or sell your own video. Nine in 10 people own a VCR.
Use the above methods to promote your business and watch the sales increase.
