CREATING A MARKET SURVEY

When Test Marketing Your Product, It's Important to Have a Survey Form So People Can Easily Offer Their Opinions.

By Ken Tarlow

Once you've created a working prototype for your product, you'll want to test it by showing the product to people outside your circle of friends and family. To make it easier for those who test your product, it's best to have a survey form ready, one that can be filled out quickly after the product has been tested.

Limit your form to a single page and include the following:

1. The User's Age

2. The User's Gender

3. The User's Occupation

4. The User's Annual Income

5. Direct Questions

A. Did you know how this product worked without much explanation?

B. Could you use this product?

6. Evaluation Questions (followed by boxes labeled "Excellent," "Good," "Fair," "Poor"

A. The chances of you buying this product yourself are...

B. The chances of you buying this product as a gift are...

7. Pricing Questions (you may offer a variety of choices, with "Yes" and "No" options)

Example: Would you pay $_________ for this product?

8. Additional Yes/No Questions

A. Do you like how the product looks?

B. Do you like the name?

C. Do you like the package?

Be sure to leave space at the bottom of the page so users can write additional comments if they desire. In addition, you may wish to add other questions that relate specifically to your product.
