THE SEVEN TRAITS NEEDED FOR SUCCESS Budding Entrepreneurs Often Wonder Just What it Takes to Succeed. Let's Look at a Few Traits Common to All Successful People.
By Douglas D. Watson
Many books have been written on how to succeed in business, outlining the various plans and steps necessary to make a venture work. But what about the "inner" qualities of success? Aren't they just as important?
Of course they are. Let's take a look at seven of the most crucial traits. To be a success you must:
1. Believe in Yourself--In order to succeed at anything, you must believe in yourself. If you don't believe in yourself, why should your customers believe in your products or services? Before entering the mail order jungle, you must have the machete of self-belief.
2. Be Trustworthy--If you acquire proper mail order knowledge and skills, you will be armed to build an honest business. In order to gain respect from your customers, you must be trustworthy. If you are involved in any shady deals or scams with or without your knowledge, your reputation suffers. Once you've lost your reputation in business, you may never get it back. People remember.
3. Have a Desire to Learn--To jump into the business world without any knowledge is foolhardy. The desire to learn must always be present so you can stay on top of the changing times. Before striking up a deal with a company, investigate them. Don't mistake hype for gospel. Check them out.
4. Treat People With Respect--Not just those who send you money, but also those who write to only ask questions. Most mail order people will include postage when they expect a reply. Trashing a letter from someone who wants a reply but failed to send return postage could cost you a new customer.
5. Create Urgency--Salespeople must strike while the proverbial iron is hot. Don't let much time elapse before filling an order. Orders must be filled while the desire for your product is still fresh in the buyers mind. To allow a customer to lose interest in a product could limit your repeat order potential.
6. Choose Words Carefully--Don't purposely mislead people with hype. Don't advertise guarantees unless you are prepared to stand behind them.
7. Be Persistent--Realize that failure can only happen when you give up. To be a success in most businesses, you have to be long-suffering. The ability to never give up is essential in the business world. When something doesn't pan out, attack it from another perspective.
Are there setbacks in business? Of course, but never forget that failure happens when you give up. Period.
Keep the above points in mind in your own business ventures. You'll be surprised what a small shift in attitude and focus can do. Good luck.
